gone away

I'm running a little late this week but that's because I'm currently in Scotland. Its a friend wedding tomorrow so I'm up here to celebrate with them.

The lipstickbalm went really well and I will post all about it when I get home. I didn't get a chance to before I left, packing took my time.

This weeks there won't be a challenge because I'm not home till Tuesday.

Plans for a spring dress and week 16 challenge

I have been thinking about a summer dress and have decided to make a simple princess seams, a line dress with straps and a ruffle detailed straight neckline. The bottom with have a fake ruffle bottomed underskirt and if I'm brave enough a scalloped edge. I have never done scallops so its going to be a challenge, but if I wimp out I will just add lace to a plain hem to soften the edge.

Week 16 challenge is lipstickbalm, or that is what I'm calling it.

I bought some cheep lipstick off ebay and as you can imagine its not very good, the colours are nice but the feel is all wrong, far too thin and oily. As my lip balm recipe is quite hard / thick I think that combining one batch of lip balm with a stick of lipstick will make a nice heavily tinted lip balm.

So on Friday the girls are coming round and we are going to have us an experiment. See if it works as I hope. I have 3 colours a pink, a pale pink and a peach, it will be interesting to see the results. If it works I will post lots of pictures and the recipe used.

Week 15 challenge - Design a spring dress

Its starting to feel like maybe spring is around the corner, the chill is leaving the air slowly and sometimes there is even a little blue sky. And with this hope for just a little sun (because after all this cold even a pale skinned English rose like me wants just a little sun) comes the want for something new and cute to wear.

Something spring like to wear for a picnic or a walk along the beach. Something cute and summery.

So this weeks challenge is to design a summer dress, I have 2 meter of a pink and cream floral fabric from a project we never got round to.

Wash cloths

Now that I have found a beauty routine that seems to work well for my skin I need more wash cloths. I had been using wipes but my as my new routine doesn't use them but does need me to wash my face twice a day I need a collection of clean cloths.

So I bought four remnant balls in cute colours and made these.

They are a 10 cm square of single crochet boarded with an edge of double crochet. The border is to give me a way to hang the cloths on hooks as well as give the cloth a nice neat finish.

I used double knit yarns and a 4.5mm hook. Here is a write up of the pattern.

Chain 20, Single crochet in second chain from hook and single crochet all the way to the other end.

Chain 1, turn and single crochet back to the other side, remember to keep it square, i.e. single crochet in second stitch at the beginning, chain counting as one stitch, and single crochet into the chain at the the end.

Repeat last step until piece is square, I use my tape measure to check.

When you get it square chain 3 and double crochet down the side.

Picture shows my chain 3 on the green hook I'm working with while the purple hook shows where I will put my first double crochet as I work down the side.

When you get to the corner work the following into the corner/last stitch. Double crochet, chain, double crochet, chain, double crochet. See picture.

Repeat last two steps till you get to the end of the last edge. For this corner we have the last double crochet of the corner in the form of our chain 3 we started with. So into the last stitch, double crochet, chain, double crochet, and chain.

To finish slip stitch into the top of the chain 3 and finish off. Sew/weave in the ends and you are done.

Picture showcase

This week I have decided to have a week off the challenges. Have a week to think and plan and design.

I started the bunny skirts and got one mostly done but time ran out and the elastic was a failure, it went in fine but was not elastic enough to do the job I needed it to do. I would have continued with making them over the weekend but I promised I would wait to make them with my friend so she can learn from the making. Luckily she is a fast learner and with some new elastic and a couple of hours work we will be all done with skirt one and onto skirt two.

But in the mean time let me amuse you with some of my other creations.

This is my new super chunky and snuggle blanket, made using the same pattern as the cushion I made earlier in the year but I doubled up the yarn and changed to my 8mm hook. It worked up really fast and is so warm and snuggle. I think my mum fell in love with it when she saw it so I may have to make her one in time for next winter.

Next keeping with the warm theme is my new arm/wrist warmers.

Made with the simplest of patterns, just a rectangle of half double crochet joined along one side with space for the thumb. I used 4ply yarn and I think it was a 3mm hook, they are nice and soft and warm, perfect for working in the cold.

Next we have some beads I got while out on my mummy and me day.

They where such cute flower beads. The pack came with six beads so I made two bracelets, one for me and one for my friend. I bought pearls in a colour to match and got bead caps and finding out of my stash.

Last of all let me share some sketches of ideas for blouses. I have been working on concepts as both me and my lolita friend are in need of some blouses to build up our wardrobes. So here we go.
