Challenge week 5

Week 4s challenge was successful, I don't have any pictures but once the outfit is made I will share.

I have had a lot of crochet challenges so far so let's go for a food one again. This week I will make scone ice cream. Starting with a vanilla base I will add raspberry jam and some broken up scone at the end.

My main worry is that the scone will soak up too much moisture and become soggy. But other than that I'm hopeful it will turn out just right. Of course its not my partners kind of thing so I will just have to eat it all on my own, how will I ever cope.

Wish me luck

Challenge week 4

This one I'm afraid is driven by something I need to do.

This week I will be designing and doing pattern work for a military lolita outfit. It will consist of a bustled skirt and a waistcoat. I have the skirt pretty much done now, so its just picking a design for the waistcoat and doing the pattern work. I have a pattern to use for a base I just need to reshape it to what I want. So that's my challenge, I'll let you know how it goes.

Plus I hope to soon post pictures of the tea cozy and the "blue wave sofa set" as I have decided to call it, my cushion and blanket. Hope to have some good stuff to share soon.

This Friday I am going yarn shopping then teaching some friends to crochet. They are learning fast , we have not had many lessons yet and my powers of description are weak but we are getting there. When I go to the shop I hope to get yarn for my blanket and some to make a lizard for a friends birthday gift, the lizard sounds like a challenge, some fiddly bits on it, but when you say "you can have a stuffed toy of what ever you want" you have to just cope when they pick something hard.

Flowers for my mummy.

For xmas my aunt, knowing me so well, bought me a crochet book full of really cute patterns. As I flicked through I came to a page with a note tucked in it. Apparently my mum had also fallen in love with the book and with one pattern in particular.

And who am I to say no to my mother, she is amazing and wonderful and kind and smart and all those things a mother should be.

So here is 28 roses for the tea cozy, there is meant to be 29 but I ran out of yarn. Mums favourite colour is purple, closely followed by lilac and I also found another nice colour in the yarn shop on my way home from work.

On a side note I can't believe I have been walking past a yarn shop for years and never noticed.

Next step is to make the other side of the cozy and then decorate it and fit it to the tea pot. Best get making.

Challenge week 3

Next weeks challenge, sticking with the crochet for now is going to be roses for my mummy, coz I love my mum, she is amazing.

And hopefully I will also be crocheting a lizard for a friends birthday and finishing my cushion (first half is done, you can see the toys sitting on it in my panda post).

Crochet panda challenge.

OK so here he is, my little panda.

My apologies the pictures are not that great I didn't get a chance to take pictures in the good light of the weekend and its dark when I get home from work.

I'm really quite pleased with him, the eyes may feel like they are on the edge of being too big but I did want a panda with a slightly cartoon feel, hence the over sized head.

I used a patten for a koala for his body, making the top 3 rounds of his body black as well as his arms.

For his head I added an increasing round, an extra sc around round and of course a decreasing round to make his head bigger. The ears and eyes I made up as I went along. I can find out the notes if any one wanted the pattern.

And here he is with his friend.

I made cthuhu for a friend from work who said he liked my unicorn but wanted something more manly. Here is the pattern

And more pictures without his hat.

Raaa

I just love his wings, they are so kool.

Challenge week 2

This is a hard one, what should this weeks challenge be. Given its still cold out I think a make rather than a do. But what to make.

I have started a cushion from the book I got from Xmas, but it will take over a week to make so that won't work as a challenge.

So let's make a panda. A crochet panda.

Update
I can't seem to find a pattern I like. I think I am going to have to work one out my self. I have a couple of patterns I like bits of, I'm sure I can piece the bits together to make one that is just right.

Challenge week 1 -Making ice cream

I decided to go with vanilla with bits of Oreo in it. A simple recipe with only a few ingredients. I used the French vanilla recipe from my new Ben and Jerry's recipe book and added some broken up oreos at the end.

This is my first ever attempt at making ice cream, so I was a little nervous. Having done a little research on the subject I made my mix a couple of hours before and stored in in the fridge so it was really cold when it went in the machine.

It tasted lovely! It was creamy and sweet and the oreos where a lovely match to the vanilla base. It did how ever melt again far to fast, I think I should have left it in the machine a little longer or made it ahead of time and stored in in the freezer to firm up.

I made half the amount the recipe said as I only have a small machine. Even so this still gave me 3 portions, 2 of which where quickly devoured by me and my partner while the last was put in the freezer. On inspection this morning it has firmed up wonderfully .

My first attempt at ice cream went well and I look forward to trying more recipes. I'm also looking forward to eating that last portion of ice cream I have waiting in the freezer. I think my challenge was a success. Now to decide on the next one.

A little unicorn

Here is a unicorn I made over the holidays

Here is the pattern:

Many thanks and all credit to the author, it was a lovely pattern to make to.

Lets begin

The new year is here, the first of January 2013. 13 has always been one of my favorite numbers, unlucky for some they say but always seemed lucky for me. So I wonder what this year hold for me, what lies ahead. Time seems to be going by so fast lately, I feel I never have time to enjoy the things I work so hard to get. So this blog is to encourage me to do, live and be more.

The plan is to record the things I make, the things I do and to challenge my self. Each week I want to set a challenge, make something, try something, or do something. Try new crafts, new foods, new experiences, and more. To do things that I normally wouldn't do, have fun and be a big kid again.

I don't want to grow up, I don't want to be what the world around me expects me to be, I don't want to be limited by anything. So I reject your reality and substitute it for one of my own. I reject your goals and will reach for the stars. I want to make my world a happier place!

My first challenge.
Make ice cream, I do have a shine new machine after all. I have never done it before and it will be fun!
